 clusion are noneducational\, reactive strategies utilized to mitigate the 
 risk of substantial physical harm or bodily injury when other less restric
 tive interventions have failed to control the situation. While these pract
 ices are legally permitted in certain instances\, they come with considera
 ble risks. Understanding the new legal framework and adopting best practic
 es in prevention\, intervention\, and de-escalation are crucial to minimiz
 ing use.\n\n In this informative session and Q&amp\;A\, experts from the 
 Oregon Department of Education (ODE) and the Office of Training\, Investig
 ations\, and Safety (OTIS) will discuss the recent 2023 legislation on res
 traint and seclusion\, and its implications for required reporting of susp
 ected child abuse. Additionally\, discussion will focus on alternatives to
  restraint and seclusion as research has consistently shown that they are 
 not effective behavioral interventions. Resources related to the preventio
 n of restraint and seclusion will be shared.
