 ast two years\, hundreds of thousands of NEA Members have made phone calls
 \, sent letters and emails\, and testified before state and federal lawmak
 ers to share their experiences with the failed Public Service Loan Forgive
 ness program.\n\nThis fall\, thanks to the hard work and advocacy of educa
 tors\, the Biden-Harris administration announced that a host of changes wo
 uld be made to the program in order to make it more accessible to qualifie
 d borrowers. These major improvements\, many of them retroactive\, will ha
 ve an immediate and positive impact on educators who carry student loan de
 bt. To date\, 30\,000+ public service employees have had their loans forgi
 ven as a result of the retroactive changes! They include:\n\n 	Borrowers n
 ow have until October 31\, 2022 to certify their qualifying employment and
  apply for the PSLF program if they have not already done so under the Lim
 ited PSLF Waiver.\n 	Qualifying payments have been simplified to include m
 ore types of repayment plans\, late payments\, and payments with small dis
 crepancies in the amount paid.\n 	The application process for PSLF will be
  simplified by improving data collection from state and federal employers 
 so that certification can be automated.\n 	The Department of Education wil
 l facilitate regular audits of student loan servicers to ensure that corre
 ct processes are being followed.\n\n\n\n\n
